Op zondag 22 februari 2009 was de 81ste uitreiking van de Academy Awards, ook wel bekend als de Oscars. Films uitgebracht in 2008 werden geëerd in het Kodak Theatre, onderdeel van het Hollywood & Highland Center in Hollywood, Amerika. De avond werd gepresenteerd door Hugh Jackman.

Grote winnaar van de avond was Slumdog Millionaire met acht Oscars. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button kreeg er drie en Milk en The Dark Knight gingen ieder met twee Oscars naar huis.
