Op 24 februari 2008 werden de Academy Awards (uitreiking van de Oscars) voor het jaar 2007 gehouden in het Kodak Theatre. De gastheer/presentator van de avond was acteur en komiek Jon stewart (voor de 2e keer), bekend van zijn stand-up comedy en tv-hostings als o.a. de Jon Stewart show. Hij won nog nooit een Oscar, maar wel vele andere awards, zoals bijvoorbeeld 15 keer een Emmy Award.De grote winnaars
De beste films waren 'No country for old men' met 8 nominaties (4 Oscars gewonnen) en 'There will be blood' met 8 nominaties (2 Oscars).
